What is ECHO? ECHO stands for Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes. It is a nationwide research program from the NIH (National Institutes of Health) whose mission is to improve the health of children for generations to come. The ECHO Program, which includes about 200 locations in the United States, seeks to answer important childhood health questions.
What is NIDA? NIDA stands for The National Institute on Drug Abuse. It is the largest supporter of the world’s research on substance use and addiction. NIDA is part of the National Institutes of Health, which conducts and supports biomedical research to advance the science on substance use and addiction and improve individual and public health.
How long will the visit take? The duration of the study visits may range from 1 to 1.5 hours. For remote participation, the time required is dependent on the pace at which survey questions are answered. In-person visits/procedures are expected to take between 1 and 1.5 hours.
Are we eligible for the current study visits? CANDLE children who are 13 years old or older, along with their moms or legal guardians, are eligible to participate in the NIDA study visit. For eligibility details regarding the ECHO study visit, please contact us for further information.
Will we be compensated for our time? Yes, ECHO visits will provide compensation of up to $300 in gift cards upon yearly completion of the survey and measurements—$150 for the child and $150 for the mother. NIDA visits will offer up to $200 in gift cards after survey completion—$100 for the child and $100 for the mother. Additionally, snacks will be available during in-person visits!
We live out of town – can we still participate? Yes! The survey portion of the current ECHO study visit can be completed remotely, and the NIDA study visit can be completed entirely remotely. Please contact study staff to learn more.
